Welcome & Welcome Back, Witches!
Last week I made a whole big stink about the social penchant for saying goodbye to summer too soon and advocated for us all to to savor those final summer vibes.
Well, now I’m writing to the sound of leaves fluttering to the ground two days ahead of the fall equinox (aka libra season). I think it’s finally time for this little Virgo to let go of her summer.
As Virgo gives way to Libra, we are getting the signal to wrap things up. The daylight will diminish a little each day, a subtle count down to winter and the end of the year. And I don’t know about you but that count down always fills me with at least a little anxiety.
Usually more than a little, if I’m honest. And this year, that count down is also counting down to a little human. No pressure.
So as a farewell to summer, and in preparation for all this fall will demand, I’ve pulled together the three biggest transits (imho) of the past three months, to give us a chance to process how this summer has gone and what we can take from it. And to welcome the new season, I’ve also pulled the three transits I’m watching as the year winds down.
What am I waiting for? Let’s get to it!
Transit: Back-to Full Moons in Capricorn
June & July 21st
Astro Energy: Focus, determination, grit & grind, anything to cross the finish line
Ask Yourself: What did I get done this summer? What am I most proud of having done (or not done?) What am I relieved to be done with?
My Experience: Looking back at my calendar and notebooks from this point in the summer, the biggest theme is that I was trying to make progress on every single project all at the same time. In this period, I was even able to do that…sort of. Lots of things done, many boxes were checked, but overall it wasn’t very comfortable or satisfying.
To be fair, Capricorn isn’t exactly the moon’s happy place, so in a lot of ways, I really got most of what these full moons had to offer.
Over the summer, I can see a shift into more of a one-thing-at-a-time mentality, and I suspect that will serve me better over the coming months. My challenge might just be in being truly honest about which projects is my priority (versus which one I feel like should be my priority).
Mercury Retrograde in Leo & Virgo
Aug 4 - Aug 28
Astro Energy: Delays, do overs, forced slow downs, history repeating
Ask Yourself: What didn’t go as planned? What can I learn from those experiences? What patterns are holding me in place?
My Experience: This transit, which covered most of the month of August, was more of a feeling than any acute events for me. The feeling was always that I should be doing more, I was forgetting something, I needed to hurry up. It was like a little bit of anxious energy was just in the air around me.
When I got sucked into this energy, I found myself harried, cranky and usually unable to complete what I’d set out to do. On the other hand, when I actively chose not to rush through a project or task, when I reminded myself that I was not actually “running out of time,” I found I had the resources I needed to get where I wanted to go. Or at least where I needed to go.
It’s a lesson I seem to have to learn time and time again, but here we are. 🤷🏻♀️
Pluto Dipped Back into Capricorn
Sept 3
Astro Energy: Final lessons, wrapping things up, time to learn and let go
Ask Yourself: What is left to complete? What lessons do I still need to internalize?
My Experience: If you’ve been experiencing some deja vu of late, you are not alone. Pluto in Capricorn was the transit the over saw the Great Recession, the Obama years (including the Tea Party), plus the dumpster fire of 2016 and 2020. I’m not saying all of those are directly Pluto in Capricorn, but they are all Pluto/Capricorn flavored.
I’m personally ready for a new flavor, but we’re not *quite* there (see below). So in the spirit of my Mercury retrograde lesson, I’m trying with all my might to slow down and really learn the final lessons of this transit.
Those lessons include not letting myself get rage baited online (hello block button), not letting external metrics determine my sense of self worth, and , surprisingly enough, putting creativity before practicality. None of these lessons come naturally to me, but they will be the foundation I need to draw on when Pluto is in Aquarius for good (well, until 2043).
Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius on the Horizon
As Libra starts our decent into the final leg of the year, I also have a few transits I’m keeping an eye on:
I. Final Libra Eclipse, Oct 2nd: The last eclipse of the year and the last one with the south node in Libra. In 2025, eclipses will move into Virgo and Pisces. This eclipse will be another moment for reflecting on lessons learned, especially those learned since around April 2023
II. Pluto’s Final Move into Aquarius, Nov 19th: No more will-they-won’t-they, Pluto will move into Aquarius and bring a wave of new learnings and experiences over the next twenty years. What those will be, we’ll find out together, but I’m looking forward to the vibe shift, if nothing else.
III. Final Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius, Nov 25th-Dec 15th: All of the Mercury retrogrades this year have been in fire signs, and I’ve noticed they’ve all been about learning patience of some kind. I’m curious what kind of patience we’ll be tackling here (though for me, I’ll be willing to bet it’s about maintaining patience through sleep deprivation).
And That’s All She Wrote!
She, of course, being me. I hope you enjoyed the read — I had a lot of fun writing it for you!
