Let’s get to it!
Capricorn: The Zodiacal Punching Bag
If you’re on the astrology side of the internet at all — and if you’re here, that’s likely — you might be familiar with some of the tropes about Capricorns. And if you’re not familiar, let’s just say they’re not always…great.
As one of my friends recently put it: “Why is every Capricorn meme about money and being a bitch?”
Today we’re going to explore that excellent question.
What’s with all the YIKES about Capricorn?
Capricorn is typically categorized as ambitious and tenacious. And along with that ambition, we tend to also saddle it with the negative associations like being heartless, cold, ruthless, and maybe a smidge… evil.
Capricorn is ruled by our fav zaddy, Saturn, and what’s more, it’s the exaltation of Mars, which is just a fancy way to say Mars gets a power-up in this sign. With the energy of taskmaster Saturn and Energizer Bunny Mars coming together in this sign, it’s no wonder that Capricorn can be…kind of a lot.
“Why is every Capricorn meme about money and being a bitch?”
Look, no one loves astro memes more than me, but the internet has really latched onto the worst qualities of both planets, bringing us better jokes at the expense of a real understanding of the sign.
What’s Up with the Goat?
To understand Capricorn energy, you really do have to get the goat.
Let’s back up a step. Cap is a cardinal sign, meaning it is the start of a new zodiacal season: in this case, winter. It is responsible for initiating this season, which comes with a massive amount of willpower.
Capricorn season begins on the Winter Solstice, when light is at its lowest. The goat represents the force that gets us climbing the mountain out of darkness into the light.
Every year, Cap’s job is to pick up where sloppy Sagittarius energy leaves off, pop the collective vibes into a cold shower, and get our asses in gear for that long march through the winter.
Not unlike Samwise carrying Frodo up Mount Doom.
It’s not an easy job, but someone has to do it. Otherwise, we’d continue our descent into the darkness forever.
Capricorn Vibes: Embody the G.O.A.T.
When it comes down to it, Cap energy is the classic movie montage: it can get so much done in a short period of time that you can’t even focus on all the details. It’s an energy that is determined and unapologetic, and ultimately incredibly powerful, especially if we can harness it for ourselves.
To help you tap into more this season, I’ve really put the practical into Practical Magic with a spiffy challenge calendar (challendar?).
It offers a daily task to help you lean into Saturn’s git’er done vibes while steering clear of the burnout-inducing “must do everything” mentality.
Go forth, get stuff done, and connect with your inner Capricorn.
And that’s all she wrote!
She, of course, being me. I hope you enjoyed the read — I had a lot of fun writing it for you!
