Retroscope: What Even Happened This Month?

Why it's important to look back as well as forward.

Welcome to the second installment of what I’m now calling monthly retroscopes.

WTF is a retroscope? you might be wondering.

In short, it is a look back at the recent astrology to see which themes felt most impactful in our lives.

Looking backwards might seem a bit silly and even off-brand for an astrologer and life coach, as both practices are inherently forward-looking. A focus on projects and progress is a major part of what distinguishes coaching from therapy. No projects, no coaching as my instructors would frequently say.

And astrology is, of course, typically divinatory — people look to it for a glimpse of what the future might hold.

However, I find reflecting on transits that have happened to be a more powerful practice day-to-day. As

put it in a recent post about writing with the moon cycle, astrology is a mindfulness practice:

“When I say astrology is a mindfulness practice, I mean that quite literally. It brings me into deeper relationship with the world around me. It is like checking in with the earth: this is the weather of what is happening today.” (pssst: Read the whole thing here)

Similarly, astro-reflection gives me a fun and thoughtful way to process what has happened and what is happening in my life, learning the patterns of the stars and connecting more deeply with the energy that makes astrology special and fun.
