Welcome and Welcome Back, Witches!
Can you feel it? It’s officially March, spring is in the air (for now) and the zodiacal year is fast drawing to a close.
If projects are on your mind and you’re starting to feel your creative energies perk back up, you’re not alone. Maybe it’s Mercury’s impending cross into Aries, but the big picture has been heavily on my mind lately.
And that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today: astrology you can use to empower big dreams and long-term projects. And because the topic is a bit of a project itself, I’ll be breaking it up into a few parts over the coming weeks.
Today, we’re going to start with the impending eclipse season and how you can make it work for you.
What am I waiting for? Let’s get to it!
🚨🚨 But First: A Special Announcement 🚨🚨
I’m working a new, super-top-secret project related to astrology readings, and I’m looking for a few folks to test it out with me. Interested in learning more? Fill out the form below:
Eclipses: The Basic Bish
Starting with the full moon on March 25th, eclipse season is approaching fast. Before diving into the deeper symbolism, let’s do a quick refresher on what the heck eclipses are and why they have seasons.
Simply put, an eclipse is when the earth, moon, and sun line up from our perspective on earth. Typically when we’re talking about eclipses, we mean either solar eclipses, when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, or lunar eclipses, when the earth passes between the sun and the moon.
Due to orbital irregularities, this only happens a few times a year, at or near points in the sky called the lunar nodes. Usually there is a cluster of eclipses around these times of year, which is what we mean when we say “eclipse season.” This spring we’ll see a lunar eclipse on March 25, and the big kahuna, a total solar eclipse, on April 8th.
Eclipses are generally most often framed as powerful moon cycles, and they come with a healthy dose of media fearmongering. Because they are such visible events, TV and movies use them as a shorthand for controlling mystical power.
And even well-meaning astrology content creators can get a little carried away with hyping the cosmic drama of eclipse season for clicks.
Eclipses do signify cycles of transformation, and that can be scary. But they can also be exhilarating and pivotal moments to inspire ourselves.
Eclipses: Your Big Change BFFs
Eclipses are more than just powerful moon moments — they actually initiate an 18-month long much longer lunar cycle symbolizing a recalibration of balance in our lives. As the eclipse points, the nodes, move through the signs of the zodiac, we might feel called to make adjustments in the areas represented by those signs.
The current cycle of eclipses, in Aries and Libra for example, began in October and lasts through next March. At that time, the nodes and the eclipse themes will shift to Virgo and Pisces, changing the themes of transformation we experience.
One reason eclipses come off as overwhelming tides of change is because we often try to compress the symbolism of this 18-month cycle into one or two days. Too often we approach eclipses like a single, shattering moment.
Sometimes they can be acute like that, but more often, each individual eclipse is a different plot point in the story of the overall cycle. If we approach them this way instead of as separate events, we can start to see potential for large-scale change.
Eclipses: Work It
A simple, powerful way to empower eclipse-level change is to simply consider what kind of transformation or change you want to invite into your life. What do you want to be different a year from now? What action can you take at each eclipse point (every six months or so) to move towards that change?
You can also incorporate the themes of the signs into your intention for change. Broadly speaking, this current eclipse cycle, which kicked off in October, is calling us to find a new equilibrium between the Aries and Libra energies in our lives. That means reconsidering the balance between our need to be individuals (Aries) and our need to belong (Libra). In short, where are you sacrificing your identity to gain acceptance from others?
And to make it even more personal, look to the houses of Libra and Aries in your birth chart (I like Astro-Seek, if you need to check yours) to see which specific themes this question might come up around. An Aries rising, for example, might see this manifest as the need to make more room for themselves (first house) in a close relationship (7th house).
Regardless of how you work with it, keep in mind that these eclipse themes are here for the long-haul, and while you might experience moments of overnight change, by and large, transformation takes time.
