Welcome & Welcome Back, Witches!
Today I want to revisit a transit we covered back in April, Jupiter and Uranus coming together in Taurus, and some of the energy that has followed since the exact conjunction.
This took place in my 5th house and I’ve noticed it has been playing out in some fascinating — and super literal — ways.
Today I want to unpack that a little more 1) so you can learn a bit more about the 5th house and it’s meaning, and 2) so I can share some super, duper exciting news with you all!
Sound good? What am I waiting for? Let’s get to it!

Life is Lifin’
This is something a good friend of mine says to capture the often non-stop nature of, well, life. And boy has my life been lifin’.
First, I’m delighted to share, I’m pregnant with my first child. They’re a boy, due on December 6th, and we found out under this year’s total solar eclipse, because the stars really love to be literal sometimes.
And because when it rains it pours, there’s another major thing I’m working to bring to life this year. With the vision and drive of two brilliant friends and partners, moonpaws, an astrology app for pets and their caregivers will launch this fall, under the new moon in Libra, because it’s all about cardinal signs this year baby.
This app will have everything. Well, everything pet astrology related. It will help you work out your pet’s birth chart (no matter how little info you have!), support you in understanding their zodiacal personality, and provide you prompts for bonding, depending on the transits of the day. And more!
It’s been over a year in the making and I’m so, so delighted to be able to share it with you all at last!
Hold up, Meaghan, how is that magical? That just sounds like …life
Well first, have a little wonder in life, jeez. That’s kinda what we’re all about here.
But also, as I mentioned above, my 5th house of Taurus has been hosting a PARTY of major astrology this year, all centered around the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction back in April. So I thought this could be a really great way to illustrate the nuance of the 5th house and how that energy might show up in our lives.
What is the 5th House?
That is the million dollar question, isn’t it?
At a high level, the houses are the area of your birth chart that represent broad life themes. Themes like self and identity, money and values, relationships, and so on.
In whole sign astrology, each house represents a 30° slice of the sky, starting with the horizon point at the moment you were born, marked by your rising sign and first house. Twelve signs and houses later, you have all 360° of the sky. Here’s mine with the first house starting in Capricorn.
This is more or less how horoscopes are written — astrologers look at where the current planets are in relation to where they were when you were born. So this spring when Jupiter and Uranus came together in Taurus, for me they were in the 5th house.
The 5th house is often called the house of “children,” and in many horoscopes, having planets in your 5th house might signal pregnancy or something happening in your children’s lives.
As someone who until recently never intended to have children, this definition never sat well with me. Was this whole area of my life meant to just…not matter?
Coming to an understanding of this house has been an interesting challenge of my practice, and it’s really come into focus this year as Uranus, Jupiter, and Mars have marched through my 5th house in Taurus.
Popping Off: 5th House
In my years of practice, I’ve come to see this house as much more than the house of children. All houses carry energy into all our lives, and the 5th house is no exception, whether you have 5 kids or 5 cats. Progeny be damned, the 5th house is an important piece of all our lives.
The 5th house is better understood as creative power that generates something wholly new. Of course, having kids is one of the most obvious creative expressions in the human experience, but it’s far from the only. What the 5th house captures is simply that which we generate — create — out of pure joy and deep passion.
For me, the 5th house has long been the house of my soul-work. It’s the magic only *I* can deliver. My coaching. This newsletter. And now moonpaws — a company where I get to combine my joy of astrology with my passion for how work can, and should, be different.
Only now, after a journey of living my life, has this expanded to include having a child. Only now am I in a place to come at motherhood from a place of true joy, and not expectation. Only now can I be present from a place of curiosity and wonder about what this path holds in store for me.
The biggest lesson for me is that the creation that comes from the 5th house isn’t driven by holding or realizing goals, and it isn’t about willing a specific reality into existence. In other words, joy is not the end result of achievement, which is too often how we approach living.
Rather the 5th house is about what we generate — what we bring to life — when we live in and start from our deepest passions. What is created when we simply love with abandon. It’s about what can happen when we begin from genuine curiosity and wonder without self-censure.
The 5th house is unrestrained possibility.
What’s Next?
This revolution has been an abject lesson in starting from joy more often. With that in mind, you may see some changes to this newsletter going forward.
Instead of plotting out topics weeks and months ahead, I’m going to be more ad hoc, so you can expect to see more of what’s on my mind in the moment. Instead of pure astrology, I’m giving myself permission to process whatever is in the air to be processed this week, whatever I can’t get off my mind — at work or at home.
And instead of weekly essays, you might see more multimedia, maybe some comics, or even something totally different. And finally, for the moment, I will be pausing paid subscriptions and Retroscopes and just making room to be playful here.
The magic in my life demands I start from my own passions. I’m going to start listening to that demand.
And That’s All She Wrote!
She, of course, being me. I hope you enjoyed the read — I had a lot of fun writing it for you!

See you all next Tuesday for more planetary fun and who knows what else!
